Muffins

Its been a long time since i last baked smthing
Yesterday i tried to bake some blueberry muffins, i must say blueberries are firstly hard to find in singapore n they are damn expensive, 1 can of blueberries cost 9 bucks.
Went online to search for some blueberry muffin recipe, found 1 n started work.
The first batch which i made yesterday, i must say it totally doesn't look like muffins. Instead its like some cookie instead. Not enuf butter i suppose and i took the wrong measurements. Using some universal measurement conversion i found on fri, i know that 1 cup = 229g. BUT very impt, this mearsurement DOES NOT apply for all ingredients.
Different ingredients have different weight for 1 cup.
Measurements as follows:-
Flour => 1 cup = 128g
Sugar => 1 cup = 201g
Milk => 1 cup = 267g
Butter => 1 cup = 250g = 2 sticks

AND VERY IMPORTANTLY, always sieve the flour before you use them, if not you'll end up with some white spots in ur cake coz the flour coagulate together n its hard to get them to disperse in the mixture.

There's always the problem of mixing the butter with milk, i've found a certain method to do them the easier way, if not there's no way to get butter to mix well with milk. A solution i found out was to immerse the bowl you are using in a water bath hence the butter wouldn't get too melted until u see the oil layer and another is to do short time microwaving of the butter milk mixture.

Anyway forget about my failed batch yesterday, i changed the recipe n here's it.
225g flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
75g butter
100g sugar
1 egg
200g milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup blueberries (amt up to you)

1. Preheat oven to 200deg
2. In large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt.
3. In 2nd bowl, squish butter and sugar until mixed. Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla until smooth, pour into first bowl.
4. Stir until mixed.
5. Fold blueberries into the batter.
6. Grease muffin tray, fill about 3/4 full, bake for around 25mins

Makes 12 Muffins.

After Exams

Well... i must say i have been spending alot ever since my last paper ended. I mean its only been less than a week, come to think of it... i don't really remember what stuff did i spend on. Let's see, there was a kbox session after my last paper last tuesday, i think i went out on wednesday but the only thing i remember was the badminton session on wed nite. Thursday I was out with justin n sean, forgot what was the occasion that even made j wong walk out of the house. oh oh, i know, we went to watch Beowulf. It wasn't really a fantastic show i must say, the storyline was just average and the action scenes were sooo 'god of war' type, lol, j wong's favourite. OH, i remember what i did on wednesday, i went to cut my hair and then send my laptop for repairs. Zzz, should have just send my laptop to sim lim, now then i realise, since its already out of warranty, might as well sim lim it; its like so much faster n cheaper. Ok, continuing on thurs after Beowulf, j wong went back to parkway to get guitar heroes 3 - paid 159 bucks for it. Hence you can see how much he would pay just to have something to play since his com will be down for 3 mths, lol. Since his com was down and so was mine, we played lan for the evening, haha, some no life entertainment. Wasted our lives away at the lanshop till 11 where we met zic, zx, rayner, xiong n bingde for supper. Supper destination was of my choice which is swee choon along jalan besar road there where it sells tim sum at nite. Not a bad place i must say.
Friday i was saving money by staying at home. Sat went to meet up with my old jc classmates - dora, jx, yl, ys, hj. Long time since everybody could make it for a meetup, hence I am a bad organiser since everytime i plan, there will always be someone who cant make it. Jx does so much of a better job than me man, lol. So next time i don't organise le, =P. At nite i was out with zx, zic n sean at MOS, since it was like free entry for students. We were there at ard 930 n there was a long queue already lo, zzz, then again, the Q was kinda fast though, there was this couple in front of us who was trying to fake their age, the gal took her sis's i/c and the guy... also had someone else's i/c. Both were like rehearsing the particulars on the i/cs, it was damn funny, then again, reminds us that well.. we are actually quite old already, haha. As expected, MOS was boring until 1130 where the real crowd came in, can't believe we actually stoned inside for like 2hrs. Oh, zic n zx actually agreed on getting jugs, lol, anyway it was a 1 for 1 jugs nite. Stayed until 1230 n we went to watch the golden compass. Wah, me n zic were like damn shag lo, sleeping at pastamania in cine while zx n sean grabbed something to eat. Zic.. dunoe wad happened to him, puked in the toilet, lol. Ok, think this ends my spend a lot of money week. Think i'll juz stay at home the next week n save money bah, lol

Last Salsa 2 lesson

Well... I've realised that i need alot of concentration in order to execute moves that are taught in classes, try to link them... try not to have too many basics coz my partner can really see me *thinking* while dancing with them... haha. Maybe coz I don't practise that much, its like everytime after salsa lesson, I don't really think of the moves after I get home... there's no one to dance with in the first place... unless.. its my dog... nah.. too small, lol. We can't really get straight to salsa 3 lessons as there are more requirements than we thought; gotta join salsa LA and/or salsa cuban before we can get to salsa 3. Think we are still gonna have our weekly sessions after this last class in school, lol

Ok below there's a video of me n nic dancing, this is really impromptu and there's only one move taught from the lessons, the rest of the moves are... i dunnoe.. or you can say i dunnoe what i was doing at that point of time also, just following my feeling ya noe. Think i gotta improve on that...

After class we went to chill awhile at starbucks, wonder how the gay n lesbian topic came about... that was like the main topic of our conversations, lol.
... here's a photo of Joel, Nicole and Me (left to right.. lol.. how else?)
talk about 3some man... =P

Das Leben der Anderen

I just finished watching Das Leben der Anderen = The lives of the others.
I must say its quite a good film. You can see the subtle change of a man, one who was emotionless and extremely pro-DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republic) to begin with, being influenced by words and the emotions of others. I also watched Goodbye Lenin, also another show on how much the DDR ideals have influenced the lives of people; the tone of this movie was lighter than that of the former though.

And I've learnt a few sentences off Das Leben:
... weil Sie sind wie Sie sind... = because you are who you are
.. Ich bin bei dir, ganz egal was. = i am with you no matter what happens

Currently I only caught this 2 phrases as a whole, lol, think I'm gonna watch it again.
I'll add more phrases here again then.
Though I watch with english translations, I realise they arn't really that accurate, but good enough for me to catch the storyline of it.

A story, lol

A story I found that was written during JC lecture, its written by 3 people, me, yusheng and jingxin.
I had a good laugh while reminiscing it. LOL

btw...
So here it goes:

Me: 在一个夜黑风高的晚上, yusheng and yeilem 走在 jingxin 家楼下.

Jingxin stuck her head out of

Yusheng give a thumbs-up sign and say "YEAH..."

THE END

P.S. In memory of those happy JC days

Some text I read a long time ago and now I've found it again
Juz another random post

首先会遇到你最爱的人,然後体会到爱的感觉;
因为了解被爱的感觉,所以才能发现最爱你的人;
但很悲哀的,在现实生活中,这三个人通常不是同一个人;
你最爱的,往往没有选择你;
最爱你的,往往不是你最爱的;
他爱你的时候没有办法假装不爱你;
如果你也不爱他了,千万别为了可怜的自尊而不肯离开;
你只知道无论何时何地、心情好坏,你都希望这个人陪著你;
毕竟,感情必须付出,而不是只想获得;

Another Sat nite out

Its been a long time since I last met up with my air force friends. It was really nice to see them guys once again. Garry, Yiheng, Jon is still the same as always... maybe coz the las time i saw them was only a few months back; and Slang, as Garry put it, dressed to impressed, haha. Gabriel got a little more 'ba' on his face though - its been like half a year since i last met him. Apparently, he had a wonderful time wif adrienne and gang in his car, lol. The catch wasn't really good that nite, we had like 4 rods and we ended up with <20 prawns. Garry got a uber huge one though - like the big boss of all the other prawns, lol. Of coz 20 prawns couldn't satisfy us, ended up going to Gok's intro at Mustafa there. Real nice dim sum which sells at night, which i would actually recommend people to go! Some restaurant called Swee Choon. Guofeng came to join us like damn late - after we finished everything except for half a char siew sou. As always, the joke about pear paying everything came, lol. Very unfortunately, Gab had to send his gf + fren home. Ended the night shopping at Mustafa centre, reached home at 3+... tired...

People are just as unpredictable as weather or nature. Everything is just so uncertain.

Blah blah...

People are just as unpredictable as weather or nature. Everything is just so uncertain and most of the things around us are just not within our own control. We can only do so much to minimize the uncertainty and not totally eliminate it. Things most of the time doesn't go the way you wanted it to be and somehow this is how it makes your life more interesting and yet at the same time, frustrating.

Ok... satisfied...

Well... for a long long time i haven't really cooked but today I had no choice coz the vegs were already out in the kitchen and there's soup n my parents are out. Here's the pic of the veg i made. OF COZ there's no aesthetic value in it. I'm not a chef k but at least for once in a long time i'm actually quite satisfied with the thing i cooked up. As long as the taste is not bad i'm quite happy with it. There's mushroom and eggs in it, though i have no idea what that veg is called... still.. there isn't alot of varieties to cook a veg at home. Well... most of the time I only have to do the vegs.. the rest of the food like today - its a corn soup - its made by my mum. Real nice, cooked for at least 4 hrs. =) Then again... what a waste of time cleaning up the wok and the rice cooker and everything else just to cook for 1 person - me and myself.

Argh... mug...

I can't seem to find things to do at home on a sunday, other than cleaning my toilet n rearranging my tabletop... what's left is to mug my tutorials. What no life i have. Although there's really much more things to help out in the house... but seriously, i'd rather mug. Everyday I just cant stand the sight of my dog dirtying my toilet... not my dog strictly speaking... just pushed to me that's all - father's busy and bro's in ocs. I have no idea if its the syllabus in NUS that requires us to have an exponential learning curve or everywhere else in the world is the same. Frankly speaking I haven't seen the lectures taught in other Unis though i always complain about the lousy syllabus NUS have in store for their students - cramped and no room for error. Ok, watch TV, fk mugging.

Last day overseas, 11 June

The very last thing we did before we checked out of our room, interesting cushions ya

Me at Chelsea stadium, can't imagine a person like me who doesn't even watch soccer be at Chelsea home, lol

The place where CFC signed all their players.

Well... today feels like any other day just that its my last day overseas and i'll have to get back to the hot and humid singapore. So today W brought us to the ever famous chelsea stadium which i nv knew that it existed. LOL. So after that we went back to Harrods n took a slow walk through the complex. Damn big.. things are damn expensive as well... really is a place for the very rich. Anyway I had a very satisfying Irish smoked salmon that cost 15 pounds. I have no idea why W + J keep converting the pounds to sg dollars; that way u'll nv be able to enjoy anything decent in London. J ended up with a cheese + goat milk Quiche. What a UNIQUE taste. lol. Totally there was a strong after taste of goaty feeling. I cant take that. Really spoils my taste. Haha. J was there "enjoying" it... damn funny. Airport wasn't that crowded... or was it just us? Being there 3 1/2 hours before. Usual plane ride... n here i am back in singapore on the 12 May. I must say 4 wks is really a short time in germany. Just when I feel that we were starting to get immersed into the culture of germany and we had to leave. Sad. I miss the not so crowded streets of darmstadt and the beautiful feeling of al fresco dining. Something that we'll nv be able to get here in singapore.

London Day 2

Me at Trafalgar Square

Some posing at the fountain in front of Buckingham Palace

In front of Buckingham Palace

St Paul's Cathedral

There's the Tate Modern in the background, never went in though, not really an artistic person

A very nice evening sun by the river

Well, as mentioned in my earlier post, don't feel like writing anything today, will update when I feel like it, anyway, the only thing i would like to talk about is the use of chopsticks. This day we were at Wagamama a noodle cafe and well... someone beside me, a chinese, of all people in the restaurant asked for a set of fork and spoon coz this person can't use chopsticks, lol, jokes. I shall not name names. =P

London Day 1

Harrods

Me n W at the Big Ben

The London Eye

Me n J in the London Eye

Some emo pic of me, but hey, a nice view up the London Eye

A very nice Tower Bridge, at first I thought this was the London Bridge but no, there's another bridge named the London Bridge and is nowhere near the beauty of this , London Bridge is just another normal bridge just down the river

Well, I don't really have the feel to write anything at the moment, so i'm just posting up photos taken in London first...

3rd Wkend, Sat - Mannheim ; Sun - Frankensteinburg

Some garden in the middle of Mannheim

A very nicely furnished interior of the church in Mannheim

The huge pieces of meat on this huge satay stick, lol, with pure wine, the rest of them had wine-schorle, NUBs! lol, kk, j/king.

Some ruins at Frankensteinburg, doesn't the doorway look like a face?

First time that close to a horse, they are really beautiful.

Me n W at Frankenstein

Me and A at this uber old catapult, if i'm not wrong its from the 1200s.

On this very saturday, me,J , W, BM made a trip down to Mannheim. When i'm writing this its already the 6 Aug, I don't quite remember what we actually did on that day. We were there, walking around, looking at more churches n old buildings. Its getting kinda repetitive already and therefore boring. We were walking around in town and I remember we had this jap lunch at this small stall run by a taiwanese. Of coz the uncle there looked happy when he actually saw more chinese patronizing him. As what most chinese will do when they see chinese in a foreign country, we got some special treatment - free soup and extra tea if my memory still serves me. Next up was this funfair we went to, i'm not sure if it was kind of a impromptu event planned but it sure does look quite normal to me other than the helicopter ride that it offered. Well... other than some foodstuff they sell there and kiddy rides, somehow it was like a flea market as well, for cars, bikes, sofas and many other stuff. Well... it was normal so I din really get a shot of the place. I did wanna get this dragon thingy there as it looked kinda cool but J mentioned it being as evil or something... as my father says... if someone mentions smthing like that, better believe than not. Next was the S-Bahn ride, their S-Bahn indeed is more posh than those in Darmstadt, sorry no pics for that as well, n well so much for the automated toilet, the first time i've seen a toilet stuck and people just use it as it is. The bowl was like overflowing - the joke was, i went into the toilet first after W, W mentioned something like something was spoilt, didn't really expressed herself that well... until I went in and saw it for myself. It was like 'OMFGWTFBBQ!'. The fluid in the bowl was like going to overflow anytime soon and u can actually see it swaying here and there following the train's movements. It was like if i'm gonna use it first, J wouldn't be able to sit on it you see, coz it was seriously near the brim. So I went out and kindly let J use it first. It was the joke of the day. Some crazy shit on the train man, luckily nothing solid was floating on it, lol. After that we went to this small town where there was this small fest happening. Suppose to taste the wine there, but I ended up getting a glass only. As usual, J and W had to try them but just refused to finished this glass of schorle( its wine mixed with carbonated water), they were sharing somemore. I wondered y wasn't I that nice to just buy a glass myself n let them try mine instead rather than having the pain to push the drinks here and there. Oh well, its over already. Once again, they were selling this huge satay stick, Speiss, i think that's what they call it. Very nice, tender and the same time juicy, man, i do miss it. Think it'll cost a bomb for such a huge stick of meat in singapore. Well... guess this marks the end of Sat.

On Sun, me, W and A went down to Frankensteinburg. It was like on top of this mountain near our stadt(Eberstadt) and it will kinda be a wasted trip if we didn't get the chance to get to the castle which is at the top of the hill in Eberstadt. The journey up was a pain man. I mean its been so long since I ever last exercised and I see older folks going up like effortlessly, bikers as well. Some foresty sceneries up, nothing interesting, juz that W got panicky coz there were a few orange slugs, lol. Personally, i've never seen them before, they looked kinda ugh, i dunnoe how to describe it. Well, but the thing is, even for a guy, when they see something they don't really like the feeling of it, we are suppose to keep our calm. Freaking out seems to be the unique _______ of gals (sorry can't think of the word to fit it, dun mind suggestions though). Anyway, you ppl get what i mean. Ok, I should stop the deviation, anyway we got to the top of the castle in an hour's time. Well.. we could see Darmstadt, Eberstadt and Frankfurt on the top. There was another town we saw coz my host did mention about it but well.. i forgot what was the last town's name. Nothing fantastic really, just that the locals like to climb up this hill on weekends as a recreation and then enjoy an alfresco lunch / breakfast at the top of the hill. Very nice indeed, sad to speak there's no such thing in singapore, no peaks for us to enjoy the wind and the feel the magnificence of nature. As much as i love nature, i fear it at the same time. Humans are just so weak compared to the predators or living fears of nature. Humans die to a snake bite, or insect bite maybe, can't outrun land predators nor outswim the sharks in the sea, jellyfish can kill humans as well, if you are thinking of the not so fast. That's how fragile how humans can be. Anyway, we had an encounter with this couple who breeds horse, they are beautiful I must say. Had a couple of pictures with the horses. After that we just made our way down, almost got lost though, haha, coz we didn't take our original route down, just anyhow wack through the forest. Seriously, we walked until there's no foot tracks to be seen, lol, luckily we hit the road and asked for directions, lol. What a joke.

3rd Wk in Darmstadt

Merck

The Chef

Our dish, Spargel mit Hollandaise sauce, of coz there will always be a meat item that accompanies it.

The dessert of the day

Some printing block exhibition outside the printing museum in Mainz

Some modern artistic structure contrasting with the old church in the background

The main door of the church, there's some inscription on the door if we look closely.

The very nice inner cloister of the church.

Path leading to the catacombs, well.. you can try finding Andariel in there, lol.

The red signs leads to the river while the blue ones ran parallel to it, interesting.

The half meter long sausage!

Well... I kinda thought the 3rd wk was boring. The day we got back to school, we had an excursion to Merck in the afternoon. It was this pharmaceutical product production factory, no pictures were allowed in the compound and well... neither did I bother about taking pictures from outside. Seriously, I wasn't interested in that area maybe coz i'm just a mechanical engineer. The rest seemed very enthusiastic about it, keep asking questions and stuff.. and to me was.. zzzz. Well, the only thing good about it was, there was a tea reception... lol, the cakes were alright, but the tea there was... well.. maybe i didn't really know how to appreciate them. Ended up mixing 3 different tea bags into a cup. LOL. They all taste like crap anyway, might as well right... haha.
On wed, we had a cooking lesson. We had the cooking lesson in a hospital, what a weird place. Guess wad, more spargel.... zzz.. I've had a lot in my host family and now we are gonna cook more spargel??! Spargel with hollandaise sauce is what the Germans like, totally not my interest. Well, anyway, we were like specially brought there to learn how to cook this dish... so as always... for show... i'll just say its good to the chef and stuff - like i always do. Well... sadly, i do not have photos for this event as well, too lazy to take out my camera n cook at the same time ya noe. Well... of coz I can get pics from my friends but then again, i think i'm getting lazier by the day - Even changing my hard drive coz my pics are in the other one, its such a chore keep plugging my hard drive in and out ya.
Lastly for the weekdays, we went over to Mainz. Another city in the vicinity of Darmstadt. From what I remember, we were brought there to look at the river Mainz, some architecture stuff, a museum (forgot what the name was, some bible printing and originality thingy - printing museum i guess.) and to try the brewery over there. It didn't really leave a strong impression on me other than the street signs. Coz there were red and blue signs and i think the red signs led to the river while the blue ones ran parallel to the river, so as to facilitate putting out of fire in the olden days, interesting. Oh, and and that buildings around the churches were left intact as the olden day bombers needed the tall churches for navigation purposes so they couldn't destroy their only ground feature, lol, reminds me of looking out for ground features when I was flying, they call it visual flying. Hence you can see a lot of old buildings in Germany surrounding old churches. Well, we ended our day with a dinner at a brewery in Mainz. The half meter long sausage is what we ordered - we didn't expect the sausage to be curled up really, was thinking of how else they were gonna serve such a long sausage, it didn't really look that 'wow' on the plate anyway.

2nd Day in Switz, Luzern

On the way up Mt. Pilatus on the cable car, damn the weather man.

Halfway up Mt. Pilatus

Me on *Misty Mountain*, lol.

The cafe on Mt. Pilatus, you can see how misty it is... (Gloin's Camp, LOL, ok... only zic, zx, j wong, sean will understand).

Mt. Pilatus on the way down on the cogwheel

The cogwheel that took us down the mountain

J + W in the flight Sim.

Me, J and W on Lake Luzern

The clearness of Lake Luzern, notice the bed of the lake and the contrast of the water colours, nice.

The overly cheesy pasta, too much also, fulfilling... not satisfying.

Tequila sunset, if I never remember wrongly.

The claustrophobic W in the hotel lift, lol

J enjoying her *crust only* croissant breakfast

This morning I woke up, seriously thought they say wake up at 8am but it was to meet at 8, lol, zzz, made me the latest. I had the best breakfast since 2 weeks in Germany man. American style breakfast buffet. Though it wasn't a feast but it was more than sufficient. I went for 3 rounds also, haha. After that we went up to Mount Pilatus. The scenery was magnificent, very beautiful, well... on the way up and down only. The peak was damn misty, really can't see shit. It was kinda like a wasted trip. It would be very much better if it was sunnier and there wasn't that much clouds. We took a cable car up and then a cogwheel down followed by a ferry ride. After that was the transport museum (Verkehrshaus der Schweiz). Somehow we went in without paying. Well... you are supposed to pay and get this green sticker on you showing that you ACTUALLY paid for it. LOL. We didn't have it while looking at everyone else with that sticker on them. Ok, hush hush, *we don't know anything*, haha. W + J tried the 3D- motion flight simulator in there, screamed their lungs out. Lol. They are the only pair inside whose screams can be heard from outside... sigh... kids.... haha. Alright, dinner was well... wasn't as good as I expected, firstly it was kinda too cheesy then it was too big a portion, should have just ordered the small size. Oh well... guess I felt real hungry at that point of time. We didn't have lunch k. Later in the night, well... had to satisfy W's cravings for cocktails, lol, don't know about J (might just be hiding her cravings =P), went down to the bar and I orders a tequila sunset for them. Nicely done I must say, better than the cocktails at the Grabenfest. However somehow they were kinda going for the juice mixes instead of the alcohol but they wanted the kick.... din want the alcohol taste but wanted the kick... oh well... hou nan fok xi(canto), LOL.
